Piñata Party at Rivera Cuale

So many colorful piñatas!

This year we once again threw a Piñata Party for the neighborhood kids. On December 18th about 40 kids appeared at Rivera Cuale, and we were excited to see that many of them remembered to bring recyclable materials from home, like plastic pop bottles and newspapers, to use to make their piñatas! Señora Hortencia, who has a piñata shop near Rivera Cuale on calle Aquiles Serdan, taught the workshop.

After a few hours of enjoying refreshments, running around with friends, laughing and making piñatas, the kids took turns trying to smash open a piñata that Señora Hortencia had brought to get to the candy inside. As soon as it broke it was a mad scramble for all the sweets on the ground! And then, as quickly as they had arrived, the kids were gone, running off home, their new colorful piñatas streaming alongside them.
